Quick update
Y'all are helping Faith get a car!!!
Yesterday, I sent an email about mutual aid. I asked for your support in helping my business partner, Faith, get a safe and reliable car to replace hers that was totaled.
She needs about $3,000 (to add to the settlement she’s owed by the insurance company, although they are fighting her because corporations are bastards).
In less than 24 hours, we’ve gathered nearly $800.
22 people (several of whom I’ve never met) have joined me in contributing to the “get Faith a car” fund. It makes my heart swell.
If you’re seeing this and can spare $10 or $20, would you please consider adding to the fund?
At least 1,200 people saw yesterday’s email (and it went to 3x that), so I’m certain there must be a few more folks who could help?
Mutual aid is one way that those of us with privilege can put our money where our values are, and help meet collective needs.
We do this not with the expectation of something in return. And not to be heroes.
We do it because we know money and caring are circular; what we put into the world will eventually return to us. We do this because we believe in the power of communal care. We do it because it is right, equitable, and just.
Also, for those of us on strike today, we know that mutual aid a meaningful form of collective resistance against systemic oppression. Let’s resist together!
In solidarity,
Becky
