Working when the world is on fire?
Balancing making a living with making a life
How are we supposed to focus when the world is on fire?
ICE is kidnapping people off the streets.
The government is shutdown.
Groceries cost more every damn week.
Deadly hate (even genocide) is becoming normalized.
And we still don’t have the Epstein files.
We’re afraid. We’re overwhelmed. We’re fucking exhausted.
And yet, our bills don’t stop. The gas company doesn’t pause payments just because the world is a Dumpster fire.
So we have to keep working.
But it is TOUGH to feel motivated and creative when everything feels so heavy. Plus, customers are tightening their purse strings due to economic uncertainties, making it even harder to earn.
I am naming this so that if you’re feeling it too, you’ll know you’re not alone.
My conversations with business owners lately are almost entirely about these issues. And about how everyone is having to reimagine how and what they sell right now.
People are offering more accessible (lower-cost, shorter-term) entry points, thinking about how to make it easier for people to say yes.
I’ve also noticed more folks exploring equitable pricing models that take into account privilege and marginalization. We use them for Feminist Podcasters Collective and Messy Liberation Coaches Circle and always get positive feedback.
More than anything, I’m seeing people craving community.
We’re can’t survive this alone. We want and need to create and buy alongside people who share our people-first values.
I know that’s why Feminist Podcasters Collective has grown so much lately. It’s not just about podcasting, it’s about belonging somewhere that feels like home.
If you’re craving that kind of connection, here are a few things you might like:

But it’s also an opportunity to get honest about what we need, what matters, and how we want to show up.
In solidarity,
Becky
PS: If you’re feeling like your motivation’s AWOL, it’s probably not you. It’s capitalism. Stop trying to “fix” focus, and start tending to your humanity instead. ❤️
